Nokia starts the big Amber/GDR2 update roll-out worldwide




Nokia has started rolling out the long-awaited Amber firmware update for its Lumia range of Windows Phone 8 smartphones.

It seems the Lumia 920 is the first to get the update, which is bundled with Microsoft's GDR2 operating system update.

Nokia has released details of when the update will be available for the various Lumia models in difference parts of the world and on different carriers.

It thought the entire rollout could take weeks to complete.

Here are some of the changes:
 Glance Screen: a clock, battery indicator available on-screen while in sleep mode
FM Radio: no need for an elaborate explanation here
Smart Camera software: a series of camera software goodies that have been introduced on the Lumia 925, such as “best shot” and “best face” modes
Flip: allows the user to flip the device into silence mode
Find Your Closest Hotspot: better web services
Data Sense: much like on Android, Amber will give the user the option to view and control data usage
