Sales of new smartphones running the Android operating system have overtaken sales of new iPhones in the United States in the last six months for the first time.
Figures from analysts Nielsen show Google's Android at 27pc of new sales and Apple at 23pc. Topping both of them still is RIM's Blackberry with 33 per cent. But Blackberry sales are steadily going down. Figures released last week show Motorola's Droid X smartphone, which runs Android, sold a staggering 300,000 devices in the first two weeks of its launch.
If you have a look at the graph, it seems to predict a very bright future for Android at the expense of Apple and Blackberry.
