Track You Friends' Real-Time Progress In The New York City Marathon On Your iDevice

The New York City Marathon is the largest in the world. Last year, nearly 44,000 runners passed the finish line.

It's held on Sunday Nov 7 and passes through all five boroughs of the city. And there's an app for iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch specially released for it.

It's free or you can make an in-app upgrade to the Premium Version for $3.99.

The free version gives you a map of the route, the leader board, athletes' profiles, live broadcasts from NBC and the results, among other things.

But the Premium Version - and this is where it gets interesting - gives you real-time tracking of up to five runners.   So if you know someone, or a few people, who is taking part and you're planning to welcome them at the finish line, you'll know exactly where they are throughout. Or you can work-out from their progress where to go to cheer them on.

Excellent use of an app at such an event.

The app's name is a bit of a mouthful - "NRR Presents the ING New York City Martahon 2010" and it's live at this link in the Apple App Store now.
