The Staples store chain has withdrawn the Viewsonic G tablet computer from sale.
According to Engadget, there are signs in shops apologising to customers and blaming "a manufacturing defect".
The 10.1", Android-powered, tablets have been heavily advertised by Staples as a cheaper alternative to the iPad.
The same fate has already hit the Toshiba Folio 100 tablet, which was withdrawn because of "quality control issues".
