Apple really started it with the launch of the iPhone and its App Store. And others have followed suit. Nokia with its Ovi store, Android with its Market and so on.
And it's paying off.
figures from industry analysts, IDC, show there were more than 10.9-Billion app downloads worldwide this year. And it predicts the number will rise to 76.9-Billion in 2014.
It shows that smartphone users far prefer using apps than browsing the mobile web, be it for social networking, getting recipes, gaming or turning your device into a flashlight.
