Figures just released show CD sales are continuing their seemingly terminal decline in the face of digital music downloads.
And what company is largely filling the gap? Apple, of course.
The figures from the NPD Group show CD sales in the US have dropped 20% in a year. Paid-for digital music increased by 13%.
Of the digital downloads, Apple's iTunes store took 66% of sales. Second was Amazon at 20%. Both those figures are up on a year before at the expense of smaller companies.
Amazon has been selling music CDs for 15 years, but only got into the digital download market in 2007 - four years after Apple started its iTunes store and launched the iconic iPad digital music player.
