Here's an excellent idea for an iPhone app...although its developers admit it doesn't yet work perfectly.
It's called "Word Lens". You use your iPhone video camera to shoot, say, a sign or a menu, and it will translate it into another language.
At the moment it only translates English into Spanish...or the other way around.
The developers say it won't work on handwriting or stylized type-faces. And they admit it's not yet perfect. But what a great concept. Let's hope it get many improvements.
"Word Lens" is a free download from the Apple App Store. But you pay in-app for language packs. At the moment there are only English/Spanish or Spanish/English and they cost £2.99/$4.99 (they have 50% off at the moment).
