Apple has renewed its pledge that it closely monitors working conditions at suppliers' factories in China.
It follows a report from environmental groups in China which criticises Apple for poor standards. Most of Apple's products are put together by the Foxconn group at factories in mainland China, where several workers have committed suicide with their families blaming long working weeks with few breaks.
The report accuses the company of only caring about "the price and quality" of its products and not the welfare of the workforce. "We've found that Apple isn't...giving dignity and respect to the workers," it says.
Apple has now issued this statement:
"Apple is committed to ensuring the highest standards of social responsibility throughout our supply base. The company requires all suppliers to sign up to Apple's code of conduct before the contracts are made. Compliance is then monitored through factory audits and measures to correct violations."
