Apple "Threatens To Pull Newspapers From App Store" In Subscription Battle

It looks like the subscription battle over how newspapers collect cash for their iPad editions is hotting up.

It's reported that Apple is now threatening to pull papers from the app store if they offer an iPad edition as a free add-on to their web or printed versions.

And it's claimed Apple has issued a deadline of April 1 - after that newspaper apps could be banned from the App Store.

Behind this is Apple trying to introduce a standardised subscription system, with subscribers paying through their App Store account. That way, Apple could take its 30% cut.

At the moment, if users subscribe through a website, Apple gets nothing.
