The company sold 7.3-million iPads in the three months up to December 25. And it sold 16.24-million iPhones - up a staggering 86% on the same quarter a year ago.
Steve Jobs, who is now on indefinite sick leave, describes the figures as "phenominal":
“We are firing on all cylinders and we’ve got some exciting things in the pipeline for this year including iPhone 4 on Verizon which customers can’t wait to get their hands on.”The figures also reveal that Apple has now amassed $59.7-billion in reserve cash.
Earlier this week, Steve Jobs sent an email message to Apple employees telling them he was taking a second "medical leave of absence" from the company. His earlier leave was to have a liver transplant operation after treatment for pancreatic cancer.
Apple shares fell on news of Jobs' continued ill health, but will certainly rally on news of these results.
