
The iPhone 4 has glass front and back panels and apparently the trouble was they couldn't get the correct thickness of white paint on the glass. Apple blamed "manufacturing problems", but it seems the glass panel supplier just couldn't get it right.
A Japanese website, Macotakara, is reporting that a new Japanese-developed painting material has solved the problem and that's why the white iPhone is now appearing on store lists - seven months after the device was launched and not-that-many-months before the release of its successor, the iPhone 5.
