News Corp boss Rupert Murdoch and Apple VP of Internet Services Eddy Cue "The Daily" will be an iPad-only paper.
Here's what we know about it already:
- It will cost 99c a week or $40 a year on subscription
- The App will be live in the Apple App Store at 12 noon EST, 5pm UK time
- More than 100 journalists have been hired and are producing dummies at News Corp HQ in New York
- It will be a multi-media app with lots of pics and video and pinching and zooming
- It's aiming at commuters, so probably not many long features
- It will probably launch in the US first...then roll out to other countries.
- There will be one main daily edition, with optional midday updates.
- It will have a free website, but only expect teaser stories - you'll need your iPad for the full monty.
- It's estimated News Corp has already invested $30m in the venture.
- Apple may use the launch to announce a new iTunes subscription method for newspapers and mags.
- The whole newspaper industry is watching to see if Roop can make a go of it.
