The new Amazon Appstore for Android smartphones has gone live in the US - despite a legal threat from Apple.
The Amazon store - www.amazon.com/appstore - is hoping to take on Google's Market store for apps which comes preloaded on Android devices.
It's big scoop on launch day is exclusive rights to the new Angry Birds Rio game, which is free for one day. Reports suggest it's a gradual roll-out over the US and at the time of writing is a bit hit and miss.
It has a total of about 3,800 apps at launch, which can be downloaded using an app on your phone, or from the website where you get a 30-minute trial of the apps before you commit to buying.
Apple is suing Amazon claiming it's illegally using Apple's "App Store" trademark.
