Android Surges Ahead In Smartphone Market Share


Figures just out show Google's Android operating system is surging ahead in smartphone market-share in the US overtaking RIM's Blackberry.

Google rose 7.7% to 31.2% in the three months to the end of January. RIM dropped a big 5.4% bringing it down to 30.4%.

As for Apple's iOS, well it just about held its own in third place at 24.7%. But don't forget Apple has just one smartphone device, the iPhone, while Android and Blackberry have dozens.

As for Microsoft, it went down 1.7% to 8% market share - and that's with the launch of its new Windows Phone 7 operating system which has done anything but take the smartphone world by storm.

And Palm is hanging on in their by the skin of its yellowing teeth.
