Bloomberg is reporting that Apple is deep in talks with music publishers to work out a deal to allow unlimited downloads of tracks on iTunes.
At the moment, you can download a song or an album only once into iTunes. If you lose it for whatever reason, you have to buy it again.
With apps, iTunes knows you've already bought or downloaded an app, and lets you download it again.
The change would also mean you can download a track you've bought straight onto multiple devices using the same iTunes account.
It's just one of the changes Apple hopes to introduce to improve iTunes. Another is relaunching its MobileMe subscription syncing service. Apple wants to make it free and possibly include cloud storage for purchased music and video.
