Big Price Rises For GQ and Vanity Fair iPad Magazines

Publisher Conde Nast is increasing the prices of two of its iPad magazines.

Vanity Fair will be up $1 to $4.99 and GQ is up a whacking $2 to $4.99.

With both, you can't subscribe and have to buy each edition.

Publishers really haven 't got their heads round how to make buying mags easy on the iPad. And some are still resisting Apple's new rule that if they offer subscriptions outside the app, they also have to offer in-app subscriptions, with Apple getting 30%.

It seems that while publishers initially thought digital magazines would make big savings on production and distribution costs, they failed to realise other new costs.

If a magazine is going to be all singing and all dancing, there are huge video production and programming costs involved.

One day they'll work it out.
