Figures from the Association of American Publishers show eBook sales shot up 116% in January.
Sales of paperback books were down 31% and hardbacks down 11%.
Earlier this year, Amazon announced that eBook sales have now overtaken paperbacks on the company's US website.
Analysts directly relate eBook sales increases to the phenomenal success of the Apple iPad and Amazon's Kindle bookreader.
