The iPad 2 launch sales figure could be as high as one million, analysts believe.
The new device sold out in retail and on-line stores within hours of going on sale in the US on Friday. And the Apple on-line store is now quoting 3-4 weeks shipping.
The one-million figure is much higher than predicted. Most industry experts expected about 600,000 devices at most to be sold over the launch weekend and it beats sales of the original iPad hands down.
One retail chain - Best Buy - says some of its stores sold-out of the iPad 2 and accessories within ten minutes of them going on sale.
It's reported that the majority of buyers in the US - about 60% - are existing iPad-owners and 40% are first-time iPad buyers. The eBay auction website reports brisk sales of both versions of the device, with the iPad 2 reacching prices of up to $4,000.
The new device is due to go on sale in other countries, including the UK, on March 25.
