Here's a useful tool. It's a jailbreak and unlock wizard for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.
From drop-down menus, you select your device, which iOS operating system it's running, which BaseBand you're on and if your PC is using Mac, Windows or Linux. And it will tell you if your device is jailbreakable and unlockable and how to do it.
And don't worry if you're new to this, the website also explains how to find your BaseBand and iOS versions.
