TUAW has been contacted by a reader who works as a USAF airman. And he tells an amazing story of dropping his iPhone from an aircraft at 1,000 feet.
Ron Walker was leaning out of the aircraft getting ready to send parachute jumpers out when wind blew his pocket open and out flew his iPhone.
He presumed it was dead and gone...but when he returned to earth a colleague used the Find My iPhone app and located Ron's device in a woodland about two miles away. Eventually, they managed to find the iPhone, which was in a case, and it was fully working and not even scratched.
He's presuming the trees broke the fall, but even so a remarkable survival story.
