Should You Get An iPad 2 Smart Cover?

Here's a video review of the new Apple-produced "case" for the iPad 2.  OK, it's not really a case, it's a cover that magnetically holds itself to the front of the device.

According to most reviews of the Smart Cover, it won't give your shiny new device much protection - the sides and the back are fully exposed to scratches and dents - and the Apple claim that using the cover cleans smudgy fingerprints from the screen doesn't seem to work too well.

It will, however, automatically wake up your device when you uncover it, and send it to sleep when you cover it up again.  That's of course as long as you're not too worried about security and don't have a passcode set for your iPad 2.

We don't have official prices for Smart Covers in the UK yet with the iPad 2 not due for release here until March 25.  In the US, where the device is already on sale, they're $39 for polyurethane ie plastic, and $69 for leather. And they come in lots of colours.
