A few days ago, Twitter updated its official free iPhone app and included a new "feature" called Quick Bar. It's that bar at the top of the screen in the picutre above. It's meant to show "trending topics". Crap. It's there to show sponsored topics.
Anyway, there was an outcry from users. They dubbed it dickbar and started tweeting about it:
A developer even produced an app for jailbroken iPhones that gets rid of it and a website was set up to let you get your own #DickBar. We know Twitter is looking for ways to get revenue, but throwing ads in our faces is not the way to do it.
Twitter was quick to respond and said an app update has been submitted to Apple for approval modifying the Quck Bar/dickbar. We wait to see if it disappears or is just "modified".
We're now waiting for the update to come out and see if the bar is still there at all. Hopefully not.
