Twitter Climbs Down After Outcry Over "Trending Topic" Bar In iPhone App

Twitter has climbed down after an outcry over its redesigned official iPhone app.

The update was released a few days ago and included an intensely annoying "Trending Topic" bar at the top of the Timeline page. It was made even more annoying by usually being a sponsored topic.

Twitter called it a "Quick Bar" and Twitter PR Sean Garrett has tweeted that the app has been updated and resubmitted to Apple for approval - without the "Quick Bar" obscuring the top timeline tweet:

 Whether this will be enough, it remains to be seen. Getting rid of the "Quick Bar" completely would have been a better move.

A developer even produced a tweak for jailbroken iPhones called Twizzler that solves the problem. It makes the "Quick Bar" vanish.
