Windows Phone 7 Major Update "Behind Schedule"

Microsoft isn't having much luck updating its Windows Phone 7 smartphone operating system launched last year.

Last month it released a minor upgrade, but had to withdraw it after it bricked some Samsung phones.

WindowsITPro website is reporting Microsoft could re-release the update - with fixes - this week.

But everyone is waiting for WP7 "major update" Mango scheduled to be released later this year to include features like cut-and-paste.

WindowsITPro says it understands Microsoft is finding the schedule "a near impossibility" and Mango may be delayed until 2012.

This is a blow for the newly-announced Microsoft-Nokia alliance, where Nokia smartphones will run WP7, but will be a welcome break for Apple and Android to get an even firmer foothold in the smartphone market.
