AT&T has dealt a major blow to the Blackberry PlayBook tablet, which was launched today in North America.
The carrier has blocked users downloading a vital app that connects the PlayBook to Blackberry smartphones allowing the tablet to get email and share contacts and calendar.
Users are expected to download the Blackberry Bridge app to their phones to make a connection with the tablet, but the app comes up as "not supported by your carrier" on AT&T. It seems it's supported by all carriers except AT&T.
It's not known if this is a mistake or if AT&T is viewing the connection as unauthorised tethering, for which network users normally have to pay extra.
All is not lost though. Website, Crackberry, has posted a workaround to get Blackberry Bridge working on AT&T. But not a good first day for the PlayBook.
