It's estimated about 50,000 Blackberry Playbooks were sold on its US launch yesterday.
The figure comes from analysts who checked 70 retail stores as well as on-line outlets. They say there were sell-outs at 11% of stores.
They've concluded that the PlayBook launch is a "modest" success for Research In Motion and may have been more successful than the recent launch of the Motorola Xoom tablet.
But no-one expects the PlayBook to seriously challenge Apple's iPad 2, which is still in short supply after selling out in 26 launch countries.
