It seems the Sony boss may have let the cat out of the bag that the next generation iPhone will have an eight-megapixel camera.
Sir Howard Stringer was being interviewed by Walt Mossberg of the Wall Street Journal when he mentioned that Sony production has been hit by the Japan earthquake disaster and shipments of "sensors" to Apple will be delayed.
At the moment Sony doesn't supply cameras to Apple, but it seems they're planning to - suggesting an eight-megapixel camera for the iPhone 5, which is widely expected to miss its usual summer launch and be delayed until autumn.
The delay could also explain why there's no mention of an iPhone 5 announcement - as usually happens - at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference in June.
Apple also recently applied for a patent for 3D camera sensors and it could possibly be these sensors Stringer was talking about (thanks to @plummers for pointing this out).
