Spotify Cuts Back Free Music Streaming Service

The music streaming service Spotify is curbing use of its free service to its six-million customers in the UK and Europe.

Non-subscription users will be limited to 10 hours a month instead of the current 20 hours. You'll also be restricted to listening to individual tracks a maximum of five times.

New users will be moved onto the new system within six months: the new restrictions will be imposed on existing users on May 1.

The free service is supported by ads.  It seems Spotify wants to move more people onto its subscription services at £4.99 and £9.99 a month.

The announcement has been made on Spotify's official blog.
