A French tech website says it's found what appears to be a reference to Apple's planned iCloud music locker service in a developers update of the forthcoming OS X 10.7 Lion Mac operating system.
Beta versions of Lion are being made available to developers before its official launch and Consomac.fr have found something codenamed "Castle", which it says apprears to be iCloud and it looks like Apple could be planning to use it for more than just streaming music.
It's long been expected Apple is planning to revamp its subscription MobileMe calendar, contacts and email syncing service. iCloud just might include this and it might be free. Google already operates a similar free over-the-air syncing service for Android smartphones.
It's been reported Apple paid $4.5-million to buy the iCloud.com website name from a Scandinavian company. And it's thought the new service - for iOS as well as Macs - will be launched at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference next month.
