Cnet is reporting that Apple has signed a deal with music giant EMI for cloud music licensing. It brings Cupertino a vital step nearer launching its iCloud music storage service, which is expected to be formally announced in June.
It's thought Apple has already done a deal with Warner Music is near to completing deals with Sony and Universal. If everyone signs on the dotted line, it gives Apple the four major players in the music industry.
Google and Amazon have already launched cloud music storage services, but without any deals with record labels. That means they can store your music collection, but offer very few other services.
Apple, on the other hand, with deals in place should be able to launch a fully-featured product. For example, uploading your music collection to Amazon and Google can take hours. Apple should be able to scan your hard drive for music, and offering instant streaming of your collection from iCloud.
