The first major magazine group has signed up to Apple's controversial iPad magazine subscription system.
Three Hearst Corp. titles - Esquire, Popular Mechanics and O, The Oprah Magazine - will offer in-app subscriptions from their July issues. Prices will be $1.99 per issue or $19.99 a year.
Apple is insisting publications include a subscription button in their apps, with the transaction routed through users iTunes accounts and Apple taking 30% of the cost.
Many publishers argue that Apple's cut is too big and they want Apple to share users info with them for mailing lists.
