iOS4.3.3 Update "Fixes iSpy Bug"

Apple called it a bug and promised to sort it out. And it looks like it's keeping to its word.

BGR says it's been leaked the next iOS4.3.3 update and it does indeed tighten up the way the iPhone and iPad collect and keep location data.

There was an outcry from privacy groups when it was revealed the iPhone and 3G iPad collects users locations and stores them in a "secret" file on the device which is then transferred to PCs during syncing.

BGR says the iOS4.3.3 changes include:

  • The update will no longer back up the location database to iTunes.
  • The size of the location database will be reduced.
  • The location database will be deleted entirely when Location Services are turned off.
  • Battery life improvements.
  • iPod bug fixes.
The update is expected to go live in iTunes within the next two weeks.
