The European on-line music service, Spotify, is taking Apple on at its own game by trying to create an alternative to iTunes.
It's extending many of its premium, paid-for, services to non-paying members.
Included in this is the ability to sync Spotify music directly with iPods - completely by-passing iTunes. It also allows users to import tunes bought in iTunes to their Spotify account.
It's also hammered out deals with record companies that means it can sell music bundles from 10 tracks for £7.99 to 100 tracks for £50.
