It looks like Apple is softening its strict iPad and iPhone newspaper and magazine subscription rules.
The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Time Inc. has reached a deal with Cupertino to make its iPad publications free for print subscribers.
Subscribers to Time, Sports Illustrated and Fortune magazines will now be able to get the iPad editions for nothing with the respective apps recognising them as subscribers.
Apple's new rules have insisted that there must be an in-app subscription button on all iPad publications, with Apple taking its usual 30% of the cost. It provoked an outcry from the publishing industry, but it now looks like Apple is willing to negotiate deals with publishers.
