The BBC has decided to embark on the international roll-out of its iPad iPlayer app in Western Europe. It seems it wants to get it right before taking on the US.
It says the international launch is scheduled for late summer and will be a testing ground for the app in other countries.
The BBC has had an iPlayer iPad app in the UK for sometime. It's free because its TV and radio catch-up services are seen as part of the service paid for by the licence fee.
The international version will be different. It will be subscription and priced at under £6 a month. And, whereas the UK version is limited to recently-broadcast programmes, the international version could contain other BBC archives - think Dr Who and Faulty Towers.
Worldwide, this could be a big money-spinner for BBC Worldwide, the Corporation's commercial division.
