The long-awaited jailbreak for the iPad 2 has briefly appeared on the web.
It was a new version of JailbreakMe, developed by hacker Comex, that appears to have been unofficially released by a beta tester. And Redmond Pie reports it worked on an iPad 2 running iOS4.3. The leak sparked multiple sites offering the exploit, but it appears they have all been closed down.
And Comex has tweeted:
For JailbreakMe to work, all you have to do is navigate using the Safari browser on the iPad to a url where you click a button and your device is jailbroken with the Cydia app store installed.
The urls in question now give a "file not found" message, but we'll have to wait to see when the official version is released.
Update: It's claimed JailbreakMe was leaked to force Comex to speed up releasing the public version of the jailbreak. But it's also reported the security flaw Comex uses for JailbreakMe to work could be easily fixed by Apple with a swift operating system update.
