Mac OS X Lion To Be Sold On USB Sticks

Just when we thought Apple was ditching physical drives completely in favour of downloads, we learn that the new Mac OS X Lion is to be sold on USB memory sticks.

Lion, which was released for download today, will be released next month on USB drives at a cost of £55/$69. That compares with the Mac App Store download price of £20.99.

And just as well really. Even with a fairly fast broadband connection, it takes some time to download the 3.5GB operating system and on a slow connection it would be a no-go.

Apple says the USB versions will be sold on-line and in Apple Retail Stores.
