HP has cut the price of its new TouchPad tablet again. Just weeks after launch, the TouchPad price now starts at $399 in the US, a full $100 less than the entry-level iPad 2.
The TouchPad started life at the same price as the Apple product, but it looks like sales are not good.
The HP offering is basically too little too late. It runs the highly-acclaimed webOS operating system, which HP took on board when it bought Palm.
While the software might be likeable, the hardware doesn't match the OS. But the big downer is the HP app store. It doesn't have very many apps and certainly doesn't cut it against knocking on 500,000 apps in the Apple App Store.
webOS deserves a better showing. A good operating system looks like failing because HP can't package it in good-enough hardware.
