Apple has stumbled badly on the smartphone road with the launch of the lacklustre iPhone 4S. It may not fall, but it needs to regain its balance quickly.
By only releasing a slightly souped-up version of the iPhone 4, it's left the market wide open to Android devices, which already match the 4S specs. OK, they may not have Siri voice control but that's not a deal breaker.
Apple now need to play catch-up with HTC and Samsung. Both of them have real iPhone-killers - the Samsung Galaxy S2 and the HTC Sensation to name but two. We'll be getting iOS5 and iCloud next week, but Android already has cloud storage and wireless syncing. And Google updates Android faster than Apple updates iOS.
It seems Apple is letting the iPhone fall by the wayside, while it rakes in profits from the iPad which is still dominating the tablet market. That is until Amazon's Kindle Fire hits the stores and other manufacturers get their act together to produce some decent Android tablets.
