At long last Apple has admitted there is a battery-life problem with iOS5.
Well, the famously secretive company has gone as far as saying there's a problem with "a small number" of devices. And the comment doesn't come in a press release, it comes in a statement given to the AllThingsD website.
“A small number of customers have reported lower than expected battery life on iOS 5 devices,” Apple said in a statement toAllThingsD. “We have found a few bugs that are affecting battery life and we will release a software update to address those in a few weeks.”Ever since iOS5 was released, iPhone owners have been complaining of drastically reduced battery life. And owners of the iPhone 4S, which came with iOS5 preinstalled, say battery life is very much shorter than earlier-generation devices.
Update: True to its word, Apple has now released a beta version of iOS5.0.1 to developers for testing:
iOS 5.0.1 beta contains improvements and other bug fixes including:
- Fixes bugs affecting battery life
- Adds Multitasking Gestures for original iPad
- Resolves bugs with Documents in the Cloud
- Improves voice recognition for Australian users using dictation
- Contains security improvements
- iOS 5.0.1 beta introduces a new way for developers to specify files that should remain on device, even in low storage situations.
