The Samsung executive at the forefront of the company's successful Galaxy range of smartphones and tablets has quit to lead Microsoft's Windows Phone OS team.
It's a coup for Microsoft to get Gavin Kim. He was Vice President of Consumer and Enterprise Services at Samsung and he becomes General Manager of the Windows Phone team.
The next year or so will be crucial for Microsoft's battle to get back into the smartphone OS market. It currently has a 7% share after being booted into touch by Apple's iOS and Google's Android.
Samsung's Galaxy range - running on Android - is seen as probably the major competitor to the iPhone and sales have been good.
Microsoft is hoping the tide is turning: a new range of Nokia smartphones are being launched over the next few months, all running Windows Phone OS.
