Update: OnLive Desktop For iPad Is Released In US After Delay, UK Soon

Update: OnLive says this iPad app will be released in the Apple App Store Friday. It says it was delayed by a day because it's been inundated with sign-ups on its website. Oh, and it apologies for the delay.

Update 2: The app is now live in the US App Store. The developer says it will be in the UK store "soon".

While the iPad is great for a good many things, most of us still turn to a PC for office stuff.  An app called OnLive Desktop - released in the Apple App Store on Thursday, January 12 - is hoping to change that.

Open the app and you're presented with an on-line Windows 7 desktop and you can tap familiar Microsoft Office icons to open Word, Powerpoint and Excel as well as some games and other utilities.

The app will work with the iPad's on-screen keyboard or a connected hardware keyboard.

OnLive is a UK based company which has been specialising in on-line gaming. It's founder and CEO is Steve Perlman:
"OnLive Desktop is the first app to deliver a no-compromise, media-rich Windows desktop experience to iPad, opening up powerful new possibilities for consumers and businesses. iPad users will now be able to simply and securely view and edit cloud-hosted documents with full-featured Windows desktop applications like Microsoft Office, just as if they were using a local high-performance PC. Multi-touch gestures respond instantly and smoothly, while HD videos, animations and PC video games-never before usable on a remote desktop-play seamlessly."
OnLive Desktop is a free download and free to use. It'll give you 2GB of cloud storage for your work. There will also be a Pro version with 50GB storage and other extra features aimed at businesses for a subscription of $9.99 a month.
