We've long been fans of Appointile app for Windows Phone...and we're almost jumping up and down with excitement at its latest update.
It adds lockscreen support for WP8 devices, which means you can have your next three calendar appointments showing on your lockscreen. Plus an icon at the bottom that shows how many appointments you have left today.
It may not sound like much, but it makes a big difference if you use your WP8 phone as a diary.
Just a glance at the lockscreen tells you what's coming up...for albeit only three appointments. But, hey, it's a darn sight more than Microsoft has baked into the OS.
We have a few gripes, which hopefully and be sorted out with another update. Like...the lockscreen appointments only show how long until they happen...such as "In 11 hours"...or... "In three days". We need the day and time they're happening, not just in how long.
The app also gives you already-established features like a well-designed live tile with a maximum of four upcoming appointments.
All in all, Appointile has been a very useful app that's just become even more useful with lockscreen support for WP8. And WP7 still gets useful live tiles,
We hope it keeps improving until Microsoft decides to add proper support for Calendar live tile and lockscreen. At the moment, the built-in calendar app shows just one...yes one solitary...appointment on the homescreen tile.
Appointile will cost you £1.99 in the Windows Phone Store and we can thoroughly recommend it for easier viewing of your calendar appointments on your homescreen...and now, yay, lockscreen.
Even if it does need a bit more work.
