Mystery of the missing mobile data setting in Action Centre,

We like the new pulldown Action Centre in Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview. We like it very much. It's one of several improvements that brings WP on a par with Android and iOS.

But it's still not quite right.

There are buttons for quick control of settings such as WiFi and brightness. But there isn't one to switch on and off mobile data.

It could be this will need a firmware update from manufacturers to activate the feature. But whatever, it should be there.

Switching on the WiFi button is great. Tap it, and WiFi switches on. Simple. But when tapping to switch off WiFi, it takes you to the main WiFi settings where there is another switch to turn off. Weird.

And while we're on about the Action Centre, we need more apps that can be selected to show notifications. Calendar reminders is one. There are lots more. We're presuming this is down to developers. Let's hope it doesn't take too long because WP8.1 really gives Microsoft a fighting chance to take on Android and iOS in the smartphone-tablet makret, but it still has a lot of catching up to do.
