The Lumia 535 is the first Microsoft-branded Lumia since the Nokia name was dropped and it's just gone on sale in the UK for around £100 off-contract and sim-free.
Strangely, the specs knock spots off the recently-released and supposedly higher-end Nokia Lumia 630.
The 535 seems to have it all: two cameras, both 5MP and the back one with flash...1GB RAM...a large 5" IPS LCD screen...8GB built-in storage, supplemented by up to 128GB on an SD card....removable battery...and replaceable colourful back covers - glossy orange or green and matt black, white or cyan.
The 535 comes loaded with the latest Windows Phone 8.1 operating system and the new Denim firmware. That means it has Cortana voice assistant, Start Screen folders and pulldown notification centre.
There are some downers though: the screen isn't the most vibrant, it's ok but nothing to write home about, and there's no dedicated hardware camera button, which really should be brought back even for lower-end Lumia phones.
But it's a good feature-packed device for the price. Talking of which, the best deal we could find at the moment in the UK is from Unlocked Mobiles, which has it in stock for £94.98 plus £5.99 postage.
It's also listed now by Amazon UK and Clove Technology, with stock expected very soon.
