Apple have released their software update iOS4 for the iPhone.

As yet, there is no officially released jailbreak for the new operating system. So the advice is to hold off and wait if you rely on jailbreaking and unlocking. The iPhone DevTeam have said a jailbreak should follow soon and there are high hopes of an unlock as well.
iOS4 was released worldwide and hammered Apple servers. Some people reported a two-hour download time.
Of course, you could just wait until tomorrow.
