The BBC has released a free news app for the iPhone and iPad in the UK.The launch - originally scheduled for earlier this year - was delayed while the Corporation's governing body, the BBC Trust, discussed complaints from rival news organisations that the app was unfair competition.
The app was released in other countries but not the UK.
The Trust has now decided that the app does not "represent a significant change to the BBC's existing public services".
The BBC says a sport app and an iPlayer app will be released soon.
The BBC News app is now live in the iTunes App Store.
