iPhone 4 Sells Out In New Zealand After Launch Chaos

It's been a morning of turmoil for Apple fans in New Zealand wanting to buy the iPhone 4.

The country is one of 17 were the device is being launched on Friday.

But stores turned buyers away when they opened and iPhone 4 advertising was pulled from the website of Vodafone New Zealand, Apple's official network partner in the country.

Vodafone directed all Press calls to Apple, which has maintained its usual silence.

Some reports say it was a last-minute contract hitch between Vodafone and Apple, others that it was a supply issue, but it's thought the launch could go ahead later.

iPhone 4 ads on the Vodafone NZ website are now back up.

Update: Well, the iPhone 4 did eventually go on sale in New Zealand - in the afternoon - and very quickly sold out.

We're still none the wiser about the cause of the chaotic launch. Vodafone is still referring questions to Apple. And Apple, of course, are saying nothing.
