ITV "Set For A Fight With Apple Over iTV"

It looks like Apple could be in for a fight in the UK if it wants to sell its television set-top boxes under the iTV brand.

It's reported Apple is planning to relaunch its AppleTV boxes as iTV to bring it into line with its other iDevices.

The box could sell for £99 and would stream content to your television as well as allowing you to download apps.

But in the UK there's ITV, Independent Television, Britain's second biggest TV network.

The Daily Mirror newspaper says ITV is preparing to take legal action against Apple if it goes ahead with its plans.  It quotes an ITV insider as saying:

“You only have to look at recent problems with the iPhone 4 to see not everything Apple produces is gold dust. We all take our ITV brand very seriously and we’ll do everything in our power to protect it.”

It's thought Apple believes the iTV and ITV names are dissimilar enough to allow them to live side-by-side.
