Microsoft Takes On iPhone With Mobile Gaming Blitz

Microsoft's new Windows Phone 7 is due to hit Europe next month.  It's the comapny's new mobile phone operating system and you can expect an onslaught of handset manufacturers releasing devices running the software.

And it's now obvious that Microsoft sees mobile gaming as a way to take on Apple's iPhone.

It's announced that in the Windows phone 7 "gaming  hub" will be several star attractions like Assasins Creed, Guitar Hero 5 and Splinter Cell: Conviction.

Microsoft has its massively successful Xbox console games portfolio to wack Apple with. And it's planning to wack as hard as it can after letting its grip on the smartphone market go very loose.

Phone users will be able to pull their Xbox players' profile onto their phones, which will also feature multi-player platforms.

It looks like being quite a game battle, with Apple due to release a similar "games hub" in its planned iPhone software update due to be released next month also.
